The WGFC United U9 girls arrived at the Cobb YMCA Academy Icebreaker Challenge (Feb. 20-21, 2010) with one purpose in mind-to win. And they did just that. Saturday’s games were won by Team United, with scores of 2-1 and 5-1, respectively, with goals scored by Jordan Luetkemeyer, Carsyn Sauls, Kristin Beasley, Brandi “Pinki” Peterson, Aly Jordan, Aleia Gray, and Katherine Irving. By the end of Saturday’s games, with a 7 point lead over the next contender in their bracket, their spot in the championship game was already secured. At Sunday’s final against Columbus, a lone goal by Kristin Beasley proved to be the game winner. The defense played very strong as well. After last weekend’s victory, the team’s tournament record is 2 for 2, after also handily winning the U9 bracket at the Sugar and Spice Classic in November. Coach Anne Marie Underwood is very proud of her girls. They proved that when a team stays focused and works together, they can accomplish anything they set their sights on!
